About this product
The Pioneer DJ DDJ-400 is a double deck controller with a built-in mixer, designed for tabletop use. It features 16 pads, filter and loop/sampler effects, and provides PC/Mac compatibility via USB. With 2 channels and 2 decks, it supports 24-bit/44.1 kHz audio and has a frequency response of 20-20000 Hz. The controller includes one mic input and one line input, but no phono input, making it ideal for digital DJs using rekordbox.
Our take
I've been using the DDJ-400 for a while now, and it's a solid entry-level controller. The layout mimics Pioneer's club gear, so transitioning to a pro setup feels natural. The 16 pads are great for cue points and loops, and the filter and loop/sampler effects are intuitive. The built-in soundcard means I only need a USB cable to my laptop. On the downside, no phono input means I can't use turntables directly, and the plastic build feels a bit light. For the price, it's hard to beat for learning or mobile gigs.
